CREATING VIGNETTES with ROSEMARY

For details click here

This is an afternoon to make a ‘Vignette’ – a small relief scene created using any drawing, painting, collage, pasted or appliqué methods in a picture frame and then displayed on a wall.

(The frames can be purchased from Priceless are recessed and are the sort that can display war medals and such like and can be purchased at a later date.  I will bring some examples to the AGM and earlier workshops for you to see, a picture tells 1,000 words!)

Alternatively I will show you how to make hats and handbags; these can be very small, dolls house size or larger if you wish.

Materials and tools for vignettes

Don’t spend money on things you don’t have in stock.  For pictures bring normal water colours or acrylic, small brushes etc. with ruler, paper, scissors, glue, photos or pictures to copy. Smooth paper is often easier for this small size.

For hats & bags bring small amount of card like old birthday cards. Small amounts of fabric – 6”x6” is large enough –  thin leather or leather look – old diaries are useful, old broken dress jewellery with small beads and chains, narrow ribbon, small fabric/embroidery scissors, needle & thread, paper scissors, ruler, pencil, white glue.  If you have one, bring a small cutting board and craft or Stanley knife

Don’t worry if you don’t have everything as I will bring extras with me.

If you need reading glasses don’t forget them!

6th Workshop.

Tuesday 24th October

Unfortunately it has been necessary to postpone the ‘Learning to Crochet’ workshop until the New Year.

Instead, in response to a request from a new member, Maggie will offer a watercolour session.  She will run through the basic traditional procedures and then suggest ideas and experiments for developing your own styles.

CHRISTMAS  SESSIONS with MEL.

SESSION 1 A Christmas Collage.

We shall begin by looking briefly at how artists have depicted the Christmas story over the centuries.

Rarely have artists tried to show exactly what it looked like, more often they have set the famous events in their own times and tried to show something of what it means,

We will then make a collage of the Nativity, using images, words and colours from magazines. No drawing or cutting skills are needed, and success is guaranteed. There will be chance to discuss our work at the end.

Come along for a fun, interesting and productive afternoon.

Materials to bring-please bring any colour magazines, such as supplements and periodicals. Paper and glue will be provided.

SESSION 2.  A Nativity figure.

Who is your favourite character in the Christmas story? Come along and create, making a personal statement about Christmas! Following on from last week, we shall use air-dry clay to make a figure (or figures) from the Nativity story. When dry this can be painted or waxed to an interesting finish.

Materials to bring-please bring any modelling tools (I have a few) and wear suitable clothing. Air-dry clay will be provided.
