Who We Are

Bexhil Artists’ Workspace was formed in 1998 by two people – Margaret Carpenter and her friend and fellow painter Peter Lee.

To date the group comprises over 50 members.

The Workspace can offer fun workshops, and a place to exhibit your work.  We hold three or four exhibitions a year, as well as a series of workshops and themed classes.  We are dedicated to encouraging people of all abilities, and a listening ear can always be found with like minded people to discuss art, artists and your own work.

Currently we run a programme of workshops during the winter months from September to May which are all led by our own members and are a wonderful chance to try new art techniques or a craft which you have always admired but have never been confident to try alone. Even experienced artists find these sessions a great way to gain inspiration and meet like minded friends.

Summer events include outdoor painting and social activities and a regular schedule of Open Studios at Bexhill Museum where our artists can demonstrate their work and chat to the public on the second Sunday of the month.

For many years we have held very successful annual spring and autumn exhibitions, open to all abilities. These events are essentially to sell individual works of art which can be purchased directly from the artist, giving the purchaser a real link to the art on their walls. Our artists have also benefited by connecting with people who wish to commission a personal piece of art- a portrait or perhaps a picture of a beloved pet. It is also a chance for amateur members to exhibit their work cheaply and without the concern of a gallery setting.

So… start that hobby that you have never had time for…  join our group to meet the likeminded people of Bexhill!
